have said that the activist was found hanged in a park in key of the capital of ukraine after he went missing yesterday and according to the police they are investigating all possible theories uh behind this incident so uh they say it could have been a
suicide or it could have been a premeditated murder disguised as a suicide and in fact we’ve had a statement from uh shishov’s associates at the at this ngo that he ran the belarusian house in ukraine who actually have suspicions as to what
happened they they say that they have no doubt that it was actually a murder uh carried out as part of a plan to kind of eliminate opponents of the russian authorities uh living abroad and and just for people who aren’t aware of the background
Here of course there are groups of people who wish to leave belarus uh some like this activist in ukraine uh is this a common phenomenon yes uh well thousands of people have left belarus since this crackdown on opposition protesters began uh last
year uh it’s very hard to give you an exact number but many have relocated to ukraine along with some other countries like lithuania and poland but yes there is a very active belarusian uh community in ukraine uh they are active politically they are
staging protests and in fact this ngo that uh sheishoff ran uh it was assisting uh bill russians fleeing persecution and arriving in ukraine it was helping them uh to find a job to get uh legal advice to find accommodation and so on and the climate
currently in belarus for activists and people who disagree with the regime can you put that in a bit of context for us yes uh the belarusian opposition community has been under a lot of pressure since last year so many opposition journalists have
been targeted just recently a very large number of uh ngos has just been uh shut down and this has led to many people uh many you know people critical of the belarusian government to leave the country and go to various neighboring uh
neighboring states so the atmosphere in belarus is currently very tense and any kind of descent usually is usually under a lot of pressure and just lastly uh the atmosphere in ukraine itself what’s the attitude of the authorities in ukraine do they
welcome these people well the ukrainian authorities have been saying from the start that uh all those bill russian activists fleeing persecution in belarus are welcome in ukraine they’ve removed the authorities have removed a lot of bureaucratic
obstacles for those below russians so they’re certainly welcome uh to stay here to get a job and to you know to feel relatively safe but uh you know whether or not they can feel protected by the ukrainian government it’s a big question because
shashov’s associates for example have been talking to the media this morning and saying that uh they have been uh that some of them have been followed and received warnings that there may be provocations uh against them by the russian
